About our Guest: Mr. Adebayo Anthony Ogungbure is a Ph.D candidate and academic advisor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Ibadan, in Nigeria.* He is the author of The Problem of Justification in African Epistemology: A Critical Study (2012) and several other peer-reviewed articles.

Overview: Mr. Ogungbure talks about his article, "African indigenous knowledge: scientific or unscientific?," published in 2013 in the academic journal Inkanyiso: Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, which examines the causes and assumptions that create tension and antagonism between Western and African indigenous knowledge. Specifically, we will be discussing  the concepts of "culture"  and  "science" and  their relevance in understanding systems of knowledge. The critical role of orality in producing, preserving and communicating African indigenous knowledge will also be discussed.
