She is currently a professor and a researcher in the Department of Anthropology at the university, Universidad Alberto Hurtado, in Santiago de Chile. She is the author of the book, [Relatos de una] ciudad trizada. Santiago de Chile (2017), and of several peer-reviewed articles.

Description: Dr. Francisca Márquez talks about her article, "El desafío ético del respeto a las muchas verdades. Universidad, ciencia y otros saberes, (English: "The ethical challenge of respecting different truths. Universities, science and other forms knowledge"), published in 2015 in the academic journal Polis. In her article, Dr. Francisca Márquez analyzes the challenges faced by the social sciences while recognizing and accepting the existence and importance of other forms of knowledge and truths expressed through oral, performative and quotidian practices produced outside universities.

How and why those other forms of knowledge were so crucial during the time of repression and violence that Chileans endured under the Pinochet dictatorship? What can we learn from Chile's experience in how we consider these other forms of knowledge within the academic community and beyond the academia? Dr. Francisca Márquez addresses these and other key questions during this conversation.
